Athletics

Archery requires a great amount of skill. It requires physical strength, focus, and precision. Archers need to develop good technique, proper stance and posture in order to strike the target. Most importantly, they also need to learn how to aim at the target for the best results. In archery it’s all about being patient, you don’t instantly become good, it takes practice like any other sport.

Practices

You can start archery in 6th grade and continue all the way until high school. There’s practice every Sunday, and sometimes during the weekdays, if there's no weather problems. There are tournaments every Saturday, and some being optional. We go to different high schools for our tournament and stay at TJ for practices. While in practice you shoot 5 arrows per round and talk about upcoming events.

During the first few weeks of archery you will receive a rope which the coaches will tie to adjust to your length and liking, then you’d be introduced to the eleven steps of success to archery. The eleven steps to archery includes stance, nock arrow, draw hand set, bow hand set, pre-draw, draw, anchor, aim, shot set up, release, and follow through and reflect. These eleven steps ensure your success in archery.

Tournaments

During tournaments the coaches give you an assigned spot for you to shoot. To score sometimes you use a paper chart while other times you use a phone. The scores on a target range from 0 to 10 with 10 being the highest and 0 the lowest. When scoring you will be assigned a partner and once everyone’s done shooting you will both score each other. There would be a practice round for both 10 and 15 meters, and 3 scoring rounds for them also. Once done scoring you will give either the phone or paper chart to the person in charge of the scores. At practices after a tournament we would talk about how the tournament went and who had the highest score.
